Do I need just the IC or the whole evaluation board?

Hello. I want to design a multi-output music player with an ARM based micro-pc(cubieboard) and an 16 out audio codec IC.

I am planning to connect the audio codec to the computer via SPI interface. By being a musician, I have a little knowledge on embedded systems. I wonder if I need just the IC on a PCB or an evaluation board of audio codec IC?

I am sorry if my question is dumb but I am a newbie.

Thank you.

If you're an absolute beginner, I highly recommend getting an evaluation board and working with that. It will eliminate (or help eliminate) at least the possibilities of hardware problems such as wrong connections, wrong values of components, missing or inverted connections, bad solder work, etc.

Make sure you pick an audio codec that has all the information available, and preferably one that is used in several projects or tutorials on the net.
