Hi all,
We're currently trying to get our remote tracking system funded through Kickstarter; a crowd funding approach:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/385904042/remote-gps-trackingThis project aims to provide a low cost Open Source GPS tracking solution. Now, I know there are other GPS tracking systems out there, but what makes ours unique is the integrated software to manage multiple tracking units, multiple map providers such as OpenStreetMap, Google Maps and also Google StreetView with others on the way.
We support Linux, Windows, MacOS, FreeBSD, and Android based devices - with iOS on the way if we get funded. Furthermore, we will support other (Open Source) trackers side by side our hardware with our software. The Raspberry Pi is supported as well as a tracking base station.
Both the hardware and the software will be Open Sourced. We're using an Atmel micro controller, and we hope that this will be a project that can serve as a stepping stone from Arduino to plain C for those who want to take the step. For this, we make the unused pins of the micro controller on the production version available for user to attach their own hardware and be creative.
We'd love to hear some of your feedback! Have you used crowd funding before? What were the results? What do you think of our GPS Tracking project itself?
Johan.
